Any Point Completing Annual Review

I work for an American company and it is the time of year to complete my annual review. The annual review is used to determine pay rise for next year and bonus but Senior Management have told us there will be no pay rises next year or bonuses. Some people on my team are intending on boycotting the process. They are trying to get the entire team to boycott. Anybody got any suggestions on what to do.

Fill it in and argue for a very high score, or refuse to sign it.

    Why?

Because when they want to make you and your co-workers redundant,
they *will* use your most recent review scores.

    Trust me, I know this.

+1 to post above from T-Square

Don't be suprised to see your review score to be very low this year. Not your fault OP, it gives them a excuse to let people go in the next few months if needed

If you are unhappy with the score you recieve, do not hesitate to refuse to sign it. Tell them you need to consult with HR or maybe a government agency.
I bet you'll be the only employee who does this, and they may actually respect you for not being a pushover

    good luck :)

Annual reviews shouldn't be *just* about your pay rise. They are a review of what you've done this year and plans for what you will do next year. They should be especially important in these unstable times - see it as an opportunity to take on extra responsibility, improve your standing in the team and get on your manager's good side.

What would you achieve by boycotting the process? All I can think of is upsetting your manager, making yourself seem awkward and money-oriented, causing trouble... it's not like they're going to say 'oh look our staff are unhappy, let's reinstate the payrise we can't afford!'

You would be better off going in well prepared, with a list of what you've achieved this year, things you've initiated, value you have added. That way it will be hard for your manager to mark you down and you should be safe(r) if/when the redundancies come along. If you do get a score you don't agree with, then definitely object to this as the previous poster suggests, but again have facts and figures to back yourself up!

What the hell do they expect to achieve through a boycott?

The company will more than likely cut costs and cut jobs and refusing to communicate isn't going to solve anything. Sounds like they're all in denial of the situation.

Truth is, in your review you could be told that you're being let go and be escorted off the premises there and then. It's happening.

Make sure you've backed up your stuff, because if you have personal stuff on your work laptop, you may not have access if you are frog marched out of the office.

This is all very immature and unprofessional.

The world is going into a recession, so senior management are refusing to give pay increases. This is sensible. Unpleasant, but sensible.

Your manager wants you to fill out your performance review. You can refuse to do this, like a spoilt child, or you can do what you're paid to do, and fill out the review.

It is part of your job. Grow up.

Sounds very familiar, do you work in Donegal by any chance?!

As for boycotting it. A few people on one team not filling in a review isn't going to create any waves for anyone apart from yourselves.
