That's a nice shot Dec, well done, it cant be easy to get close to those fellas.

I wouldn't be mad about the border though, darkens it a bit too much IMHO.

    Hi Dec.

It's a good shot but do you have it in colour at all. I only say this as I think the deer doesn't pop from the picture for me.
It sort of blends with the background a little bit. The deer is the main subject of the pic and you want to differentiate from the background.
It is a nice pic but I would love to see it in colour just to see the difference.

Please don't take the comment personally it's just the way I see it(also still learning!!!).
Others may have a different opinion or more experienced c&c :)

I would resize the original a bit, It seems too blurry on fullsize. Great shot though, and I disagree with jen_23, the darkness of the shadow on the side of the deer instantly draws your eye. Mine anyway.

I would like to see it in colour too
Also the stag's side looks very dark, in colour it might be brighter

    I like the shot though

I was going to ask for the colour too, but if you think about it, these guys survive by not popping out from the background.....

I think I agree with Jenny but feck I've had far more than what she has had!!
Picture I would like to see in colour, also I would like to see it as someone said earlier "pop out"
Big Kudos for it looking at it straight ahead of you but yet it reminds me of the Elizabeth film where she stares at the Deer and a few secs later it is butchered...admitaddly this Deer may not have being bt my Animal Lovers hat is on.

Even after seeing the colour version, I prefer the black and white. The deer is the same colour as the ground anyway so doesnt naturally pop out.

Totally agree, the B&W is great and I love that you got him looking right at you

I prefer the original, the shot itself appeals to me ... I like the positioning of the stag in the frame and the contrast is excellent ...

If it were mine, I'd be tempted to crop a little more off the top, the bright sky is in comptition for attention, so I'd leave just a little in the shot ...

but, fair play to you, I'd be glad to have a shot like this in my portfolio ...

    Phil

AnimalRights, no deer were harmed in the taking of this shot ..:)

I love the pic, I wonder what it might be like in B&W with the deer in colour, that might give the kind of pop that was being mentioned earlier :)

    Interesting idea.
Also would that be possible using Lightroom 2 or do you have to use PS?

i'd personally disagree, I find selective colouring in nearly any use rather cliched.

maybe a bit of dodging and burning?
