Folks, I was messsing around with AVG, basically trying to install a free version before my trial verson ran out (don't ask) and now my built in wifi won't work. when I use a seperate usb wifi device it connects to net ok and when i look at the built in wifi device it says connected with limited access but it won't let me access the net.

Any ideas how to get around this?
    I have uninstalled the AVG.
    Tks for help

And this is why I pay for Norton.

you could try reinstalling the drivers for your wireless device.

Hi ya, I have the AVG uninstalled now, it may be that the port used by the built in wifi is now blocked.
Perhaps when i uninstalled the AVG mayne it blocked the port.
I tried to install the avg trial and it didn't work out.

The built in wifi driver seems to be working ok as it says the device status is ok, and on the connections status indication it says connected with limited connectivity.
    tks for any ideas/ advice

Ahh Norton. The cause of, and solution to, all computer problems.:D

Ironically it's the pay version of AVG that causes this problem.
OP, go to network connections in Control Palel. Right click on your wireless connection and select properties. Then double click on TCP/IP (v4 if Vista) and mke sure that 'optain ip address automatically' is selected.

Thanks for that, I am running vista and ip v4 and v6 are selected, also automatic selection, but still no luck in solving the problem.
Is it possible that the new delected AVG has blocked the port the wifi is using?
If so, any ideas on how to unblock or change it?

    tks
