Question about LNBs

Am considering installing freesat (have NTL cable at the moment).

Have four cable outputs, one downstairs and one in each bedroom in the house, all of which can be accessed via the attic.

Should I get a quad LNB for the dish? Would this actually improve the signal as opposed to just splitting the output of one LNB in four?

Yes - a quad LNB is what you need. Splitting satellite cables doesn't work like it does with cable/UHF/VHF.

X8 LNB in you want to use a PVR on any one of them, which would require two cables to at least one of the destinations

Agree - already thinking myself I should have put in an octo instead of quad - because of PVR.

Thanks guys - I thought a PVR would just split the cable inside itself, but if this isn't possible that would explain the need for two inputs!

That's a bit of a pain as I have only one cable coming down through a rather small pipe through a concrete wall downstairs.

While it's a better approach to run an extra cable and use a quad, if you are unable to pull through an extra cable, then the Humax Freesat PVR supports Unicable LNBFs which allow you run 4 tuners from the one coax e.g. one pvr and two stbs.

You can get WF65 twin "shotgun"cable that will pass through a 10mm hole.
