Midleton to Cork city

I was planning on cycling from Dungarvan to Cork city tomorrow but I'd be a tad nervous about the road from Midleton on with it being a pre-chrimbo shopping sunday.
Does anyone have any alternative routes to the main road that might be less dangerous traffic wise but not too icy either?

This Route Keeps you off the main Middleton road

You'll be grand Showry, I have done it and its ok (that being said the other road Tiny mentioned might be more interesting to ride on and will shelter you more from the headwind you usually get down there). The hard shoulder is large so the extra traffic really only comes into play on the slip roads, there are a couple which join from the left which mean that you will have to stay in the middle of the road between the joining lane and the existing lane until it is safe to pull in. A little hairy, so make sure you are wearing all your high viz stuff and signal to the motorists what you are doing. I will be doing the same route a couple of times at xmas as you might imagine...

    cheers lads,
think I'll be grand to Midleton - don't fancy that Clashmore road first thing in the morning, stones of a hill - but the road from Midleton to Cobh cross could be good.
That said, I may just get out and back early and go up in the car.

    Hi Showry,
Cycled it many a time and it's grand - as Quigs said the Hard shoulder is like an additional lane so you'll have that pretty much to yourself.

If you want a different route coming back you could always go out to Passage, get Ferry across and cycle from Cobh back out to the main road which is a nice cycle.

Wind not due to be too bad either (17k) but you will feel it on the way into the City.

    Enjoy
