    Hey

have a little nixer tomorrow recording a violin with piano accompaniment.

only have 2 mics at my disposal, 2 x C414s

gonna spot mic both i think. violin should be ok, but one mic on piano might be a bit troublesome, not actually sure if its upright or grand yet, short notice thing.
considered doing a traditional stereo recording but it mightened be the nicest sounding room (won't be there till tomorrow) so i think close micing would be safer.

doesn't have to be brilliant but i obviously want to do as good a job as possible, any advice or tips appreciated

Chances are with that setup distance miking might be preferable. I'm guessing a classical buzz?

Usually close micing a violin is a no no and close mic Joannas is more of a pop thing, where it has to cut through a track. i.e more of the hammer/string area.

Also being a solo fiddle there may be a bit of movement by the player so distance will help there too.

One possible way might be have the 414 in figure of 8 in the piano with the violin in the null. Find a position in the Jo where the right and left hands are balanced.

However that also might be a daft idea ...
