Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

MHRV in refurb of 60 year old house

    A chairde,

I am about to enbark upon a rerfurb of a 60 year old house.
Most people here appear to be greenfield passive house developers,
perhaps we could have more sharing of info amongst the very few
    retrofitters here?

1 Has anyone implemented MHRV on a 60 year old house?

2 What kind of electrical demand is on the heat exchangers on these systems? The cost of installtion appears reasonable ( about €5k), but it will be on 24 * 7, so what kind of annual running cost could you expect?

3 I am considering geo-thermal, and I will have Underfloor downstairs.
However, to save costs, I am hoping to hold onto the rads upstairs.
Could I get away with heating the upstairs on the same low temperature associated with underfloor? I know warm air rises, but nowadays you have to insulate ceilings well.

    Many thanks,
    H4L.

If you increase the radiator size to allow for the lower temperature; you should be able to run radiators up stairs fit thermostatic rad valve
I presume you taking out the ground floors; when fitting the under floor heating’ there’s an opportunity to insulate; you most likely have soled block; so internal insulation; as for the hrv’ depends on what you have to work with; if you are striping it’ then I can see n problems
