Looking to buy a projector and a screen for presentations, showing films etc etc. Not exactly sure on the budget. Could you give me advice on something reasonably versatile for a decent price?

    Thanks
    Morf

You need to give some more information - is this for a workplace situation, what's the viewing environment ( level of ambient light, degree of light control), what size image do you want, are projector and screen to be fixed in position or is it a temporary thing where they're put away afterwards, how fussy are you about picture quality, what sources will you use for movies (PC, dvd player, BluRay player ?) and the budget is important. Sorry for the list of questions, but you can see from them that it's not easy to answer your question as things stand.

It's for a workplace. It will be in quite a large room which could seat about 30 or so people at a stretch. The room has shutters which could block out most of the light. The screen will be fixed to a wall, the projector will likely be set up on a table. Picture quality isn't a huge issue, it needs to be adequate to show a dvd in reasonable quality to a large room of people or a presentation etc. It'll likel;y be hooked up to a laptop or a dvd player. I'm not sure of any other sources beyond that. I think the budget will be around 800 for the projector and screen with perhaps a bit of leeway if it gives more room for future compatibility (HD etc.).

    Thanks for your help.

Projectors for business purposes (presentations etc) tend not to be good at home cinema applications and vice versa, so there isn't really an ideal "crossover" product that I know of. If it's home is in the workplace and a room for 30 people it needs to have fairly good light output, if you want a bit of versatility to show dvds etc, then just go for a business projector with a decent resolution, i.e. not 800x600. This one - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=358699 as an example, has decent light output (not ideal for home cinema) and has fairly high resolution, would pass as HD Ready. I'm not making a recommendation of this particular model I've never seen one in action), but it's an example of the kind of spec you could look for in your price range.

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

The projector was put on the long finger until now.

The projector you recommended is no longer on sale @ komplett.

I need a projector that will mostly be used to show dvds from a laptop. It will be for the summer used to show DVD's to a room of upwards of 60 people crammed into a medium sized room. For the remainder of the year it'll be in a smaller room used to show dvd's and the odd powerpoint presentation.

The main area it will be used will certainly be showing movies i.e. dvds.

In the summer the room will have the windows blocked out so it will be quite dark.

Picture quality isn't a huge concern but i'd rather have a better picture for films rather than powerpoint presentations.

The budget for the projector is roughly €700.

Any suggestions would be gladly received!

    Hi Morf,

you'd be pushing it to get a decent lumien projector for under €700. In a business enviroment, it would be better to lean towards brightness over resolution.
Will i get modded if I give a business name suggestion?

Well it will be showing DVD's too. I'm just trying get a decent balance between a business and an entertainment projector.

If you could recommend one in that price range i'd be very thankful.

Get a high lumen projector with a HDMI or DVI input. This will help with the quality of video and future proof for Blu-ray.
