hey Id be familair with the course to a point. I did a biological science course but knew ppl doing that and biomed.
What would you see yourself doing in 5 years time and I can answer whether it's right or not for you:)

I do aero eng in limerick which is alongside the biomeds most of the time.

In UL they do first and second year with the mech eng course exactly, then in 3rd year they do a bit more specialised coursework. Final year they generally do a FYP in something related to the course.
Best idea would be ring UL and ask them for some info. They can usually find you people on the course to talk to. Just remember that college and work are not directly related. Im saying this from shuffling paper around a desk at the moment, i see an airplane hands on every month. Not near every day.

As far as biomed jobs go, its alot of design in stints and prosthetic limbs. Lads on work experience are in places like stryker, boston scientific and medtronic. From what i hear its just engineering parts to go onto or into people. Dont think theres any contact with actual patients.
