[Idea] Free software awards?

    I was thinking when i was looking at the free software sticky that we should have a annual vote for our favorite free software.

    The sticky hasn't been updated in over a year so its due a bit of an over-hall anyways. I also think that the current format is a bit overkill with options, for example say i was looking for a new antvirus, there is 5 options with no indication to which is best or which people prefer.

    My idea for it so far would be (most are robbed from the game awards :pac:):

    There would be different categories similar to the ones in the current sticky with a few of teh more advanced categories dropped(eg security & system, not many of those apps have the same use) Maybe people could put forward categories in this thread?. Something like this maybe (please feel free to criticise and suggest!!):

    Anti Spyware
    Anti Virus
    Archivers (Compression and Decompression tools)
    Browser
    Burnering Applications (CD/DVD)
    Chat
    Desktop Enhancers
    Document Viewers / Creators
    Email Clients
    Firewalls
    Graphics
    Media Player (Audio)
    Media Player (Video)
    Misc
    Networking

    Each category would get its own thread where people put forward their nomination, Nominations must contain the softwares name, download link and rough size(in mb). A software must be "+1'd" after the first nomination to reach the next stage. A software can be entered into multiple categories if it applies to both. A person is only allowed nominate one per Category

    A poll will then be set up for each category where people vote for their favorite

    The winning software from each category will be put in a new sticky (with a few screen shots maybe) Links to each categories voting page will also be provided on the sticky in case people want to see/try the ones that didn't win

    Any ideas on the above?
