depending on snow I'm considering jumping on a plane and going snowboarding for a few days, possibly on my own.

I'm thinking a mainly english speaking resort would make interacting easier, which kinda suggests Austria

    Any suggestions?

All the Swiss resorts speak English, and Verbier is famous for ski bumming. My sister doesn't speak any languages, but she had a ball in Cervina. Val d'Isere/Tignes have loads of English, but you might be better trying St Foy, which is smaller but has loads of great off-piste.

from working in verbier last year I can safely say that it is pretty much an english town! Not speaking french is certainly not a problem
