British funnyman Russell Brand is poised to reprise Dudley Moore's lovable rascal Arthur in a remake of the 1981 hit.
The actor/comedian is in talks to play the movie's title character, a fun-loving playboy who has to choose between a family fortune and his working-class girlfriend.
The late Moore won a Best Actor Oscar nomination for the original.

I really hope this doesnt happen

Greta Gerwig is in talks to co-star in Warner Bros' Arthur remake.
According to reports, the Greenberg actress is eyeing the role played by Liza Minnelli in the remake of the 1981 film.
Comedian Russell Brand was cast as Arthur, originally portrayed by Dudley Moore, in the Jason Winer-directed update. Helen Mirren has also joined the cast in the film as Arthur's nanny.

    Who cares?
    Let them remake it.
Nobody is going to go see it, it will be terrible and almost immediately forgotten.

What is Helen Mirren doing starring in this?
Surely she would know better. Me thinks she smells a paycheck.

I clicked on the thread thinking it was about Guy Ritchie's proposed take on the King Arthur story, but find it is about Russell Bland trying to get another role to prove he is as bad an actor as he is a "funnyman"

The first trailer for Russell Brand’s Arthur remake has landed online.

Following the exploits of drunken playboy Arthur (Brand), the film sees him mollycoddled by his nanny Hobson (Helen Mirren) and set to lose his fortune.
The original film was released in 1981, and bagged two Academy Awards - one for Best Music, and one for Best Supporting Actor (John Gielgud).
With its David Bowie soundtrack, Batmobile cameo and raunchy-crazy Jennifer Garner, this remake seems to have thrown in everything it can think of.
Including a scene-stealing Helen Mirren, who’s bound to make the entire thing worthwhile – and balance out Brand’s squeaky-voiced mayhem. Of which there is sure to be a lot.
    Arthur opens 22 April.

I reckon brand is pretty funny and turned in a decent performance in parts of get him to the greek. He might be great in this!
The origional was 30 years ago so a remake is ok by me.

if I'm bored by the trailer there's not much hope for the movie itself!

Brand has got such a punchable face, his voice is like a bag of cats being pelted repeatedly against a wall.

I really like Brand, I love his stand up and TV work, but his American persona really annoys me. Also I think he looks like a psychopath without the beard.

Trailer looked to goofy. Doesn't seem to have the same tone as the original. Then again the original movie asked you to find Arthur lovable when we went drove drunk quite a bit. Wonder if he would of laughed had he caused an accident and killed a bunch of people.

I like the way the articles refer to him as "Comedian Russell Brand" just to clarify his profession to people who may have thought a person making sarcastic comments about redtop newspaper headlines doesn't constitute comedy.

    That trailer was funny!

I wouldnt like to be in his presence, however I've always found him funny.

Back in the day his show on BBC Radio was one of the best radio shows going.
