we are looking to get a back boiler installed in the fire place one day.is it a big job and is it expensive?the previous owner said he had the chimney done for a boiler as in it is opened up bigger to take one but he never got it done.we have a fire going and you should see the draught which is taking all our lovely heat.

The heat will still go up the chimney with a back boiler - maybe read up on the stoves people are talking about in some previous posts. They are suitable for living rooms.

In October a Grant back boiler installed in semi, new pipes to 1st floor hot press and new cylinder - €1400 incl labour and materials, sunny south east area.

Stoves are also a good idea - if you light an open fire regularly then definitely install a back boiler or stove.

this might sound silly but who'd you get to do it a builder or a plumber?

A good plumber. This plumber came back to set the fire - to test the backboiler. Nice to arrive home to a warm fire and a cup of tea. He's one in a million. Very dependable very fast and neat work.
Pm for number if in South East
