My friends laptop has stopped working.. well once it's starts nothing will work.. like it's in a LAG that wont go away

    Windows Vista laptop
Was working fine as i've used it before.

I checked the System Events. and there was 1000's of EventID 7001 errors under the "System" tag

and loads of "Audit Success" ID 4672 under the security tab, (37669 in total)

anyone know what could be wrong with this... something defo looks messed up.

can you paste the contents the event logs into here.

7001 errors i believe can be caused by many different services.

if its slowing down alot you may want to have a look at the cpu usage.

also how much ram do you have and how much is in use.

free space on the system harddrive is also an issue.

post all that up and hopefully we can help you.

I cant really post the log, as the laptop wont work and it would mean typing it in by hand !! and it's loads.

It's has 1 gig ram, It's a small HDD but still has 15gig free, In safe mode the CPU is fine, I cant even check it in normal mode as it wont let me,, (thats how bad it is)

I had a problem like this before with this laptop but it was a case of 2 anti virus programs been installed. I check and this is not the case, well as far as i can see.

Have you tried doing a system restore under safe mode? If you can install a program called Remove IT pro and run it and see if that throws up anything? But this program can only be insalled in normal mode. The free trial will not remove anything but it will tell you where the virus is if it is one.

Also do an msconfig and check the start up items see if there is anything there you can turn off. Turn off as much as you can.

All else failing, back up your stuff and reinstall. that will be alot faster than trying to fix any other problems.

Before i read this is did the msconfig way and it worked for now.

Just to add nothing was working in normal mode so i wouldnt have been able to install a program.

    But its working now.
    Thanks for the replies,
