Why do some HDTV's look pixely and watery?

I've noticed that some TV's (including proper 1080p ones) look excessively watery and pixely and generally crap. Why is that? What's causing it? And much to you have to pay before you get a decent picture?

Is it because you are watching non HD content on it? Regular SD channels?

    TV set up incorrectly?

SD content + poor scaler = blurry image when moving.

No I mean when there is proper HD content showing.

Are you subscribed to an HD package, i.e with Sky?

Are you connected to your HD box with an HDMI cable?
(If not you aren't watching an HD image?)

No I'm just talking about TV's that I see in the Sony Centre etc.. I can tell by the resolution that it's a HD picture, yet it looks dotty and watery. It's like the TV can't show all the colours or something. It puts me off buying a HDTV at this stage. Surely someone has seen this...?

I really cant see where you're coming from tbh. Ironically, speaking of sony sentres, furthermore because the best sony tvs have amazing colour reproduction

The only time I have seen TV's in Sony Centre windows look crap or blurry is when they are playing SD content or heavily compressed digital content. Neither of which is the tv's fault (but due to careless salesmen)

I would agree with Onikage......it's rare to non-existent that you will see ANY full HD programmes displayed in ANY retailer not least because they rarely have a SKY HD box set up. This is actually what slowed my purchase down of a full HD TV, because, believe me, when you do see Full HD it blows you away!!! If I had done I would have bought one 12 months ago! Can't wait for my Sky HD Box in January to go with the LG 37LG6000 I bought last week, which is great by the way!! Only £534 delivered from Amazon inside 24 hours of ordering.

Becaus LCD or Plasma are not as good as CRT when the picture is not in the native resolution.

Perhaps a HD CRT would be your answer, but they don't go to the sizes that LCD and plasma can

a good plasma is the way to go in the bigger sizes just let your eyes do the judging instead of all the silly stories you hear about them , pioneer or panasonic sets that i have seen are really impressive, never liked the big sony lcds they do look watery and blury in my humble opinion :D
