    Hey guys,

I'm doing a presentation for college (I study film and TV) and I need a stat from HBO's 'Oz'. Woould anyone know the number of people who died in the show during it's 6 seasons? (Or just the first 4 would be even better)

I need it to compare to the number of people who died in Desperate Housewives during the first 4 seasons, fortunately that stat can be found on IMDB.

So short of watching every episode, is there any way of finding out? Help would be much appreciated.

Wow that's a lot of murders! Maybe HBO have a press office you could email to get the exact figure? What's the report about?

I make it 64 in the first 4 seasons.
Approximately 102 in total during the 6 seasons.

If you're comparing Oz to Desperate Housewives, remember that seasons 1,2,3,5 & 6 of Oz only had 8 episodes each and season 4 had 16, whereas each season of Desperate Housewives has had at least 22 episodes.

Absolutely awesome, in my opinion. Apart from a couple of home made shows on TG4, OZ is/was the best show on television and had such a great cast.

Simon Adebisi must be the best tv character of all-time, he's such a horrible person, but who didn't absolutely love that guy?

Augustus, The O'Reilly boys, Busmalis and Burr were also great characters.

Shame this show ended, but at least the majority of the cast have been doing well for themselves - Lost, Dexter, Fringe, etc.

Oz was one of the grimmest shows I've ever watched. Each episode you'd be praying for humanity afterwards. ^^

Ryan O'Reilly was one of the best characters in television history! :D There were so many gangs and groups in Oz but O'Reilly constantly played them off each other,he rarely got his hands dirty. Such a sly son of a bitch, probably responsible for a lot of deaths on the show, but how many did he actually kill himself? What a character! :)

Couldnt agree with you more! Ryan O'Reilly - what a hero. Definately my favourate character from Oz. Such a sly sh*t stirrer, always saying the right thing to the right people to get the job done without getting his hands dirty.

Does anyone know if it will ever be back on TG4? Was one of my favourite shows.

    Hey again guys,

Just want to thank everyone for their help. My presentation is actually on Desperate Housewives. Not the worst one to get, some people got shows like One Tree Hill and The Bill, though there were a few I would have prefered getting, The Sopranos, The Wire, 24 and The Simpsons just being a few. Damn drawing names out of a hat!! I never win...

I watched Oz straight through from Series 1 to Series 6 earlier this year. One of my favourite tv series of all times...

Gotta agree, O'Reilly was a brilliant character...

    Also (spoiler alert)
The episode where Cyril is supposed to be executed, but gets a stay is one of the most moving episodes of any tv show, i nearly cry every time i see it

Epic show... Wish that they could do some follow up of some sort..

I did the exact same thing, watched all the seasons over the course of about a month. And yes that episode was absolutely brilliant.

The O'Reilly brothers are brothers in real life too, I suppose that's kind of obvious considering they looks like twins almost, but it's rare to see brothers acting along side each other as brothers.

Was chatting to a few mates over lunch today about Oz and the most fu*cked up moments (quite a few to choose from!) My own has to be when the Aryan, Robson becomes Cutler's prag. They're in the cell one romantic evening and Cutler has a big tablespoon in his mouth. He then says to Robson "bend over prag, we gonna spoon". Duuurty!

My favourite TV show of all time. Not one bad episode.Shocking, violent, moving this show had everything.I remember reading about it Bizarre magazine about it where they referred to it as "a nasty prison bum rape drama"
Nastiest moment for me was when Robson and another Aryan had a young muslim in a supply closet and started slicing him up with a razor.Tough scene.

Funniest was when Robson gets the dental surgery and Poet and O'reilly rip the piss out of him in the cafeteria.

"yo G,you want some chitlins and gravy with that?"

    LOL

pity the series descended into farce in the last 2 seasons.
really ruined it with some of the ridiculous story lines.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

I'm not sure about the 2nd last season, but the last season was disappointing, it's like they ran out of ideas and decided to
kill everyone off one by one.

This was definitely a highlight of program though! :D

Oz was more realistic, think women only liked prison break cause they fancy the main charactors, usual goodlooking man lead role ****,Oz showed that sometimes people didnt get a break, some just had hard lifes,i remember one scene when the nun sister pete goes to an inmate, god chooses us,he replys well i want god to choose me,Oz also showed what things can do to fathers and sons,as we saw schillinger's sons been sent to prison

I loved Oz, it is my second favorite tv show, right next to The Sopranos. Such a brilliant show. My favorite characters were of course the O'Reillys, but I also liked Tobias Beecher, Kareem Said and Augustus Hill(Wheels)

It was also real gruesome as well, the worst scene I thought was seeing the baby being thrown into a bin full of rats

I watched practically every episode on TG4. First time round it was regularly truly shocking. Then bought the boxset with some trepidation. But it was well worth it and I've watched it through twice again. Fantastic cast of actors very many of whom keep popping up in other series and films. I'd say working on 'Oz' was great for CVs.

Favourite characters: Adebysi, Beecher, Keller, McManus, both O'Rellly brothers, Said and Schillinger.

Puts limp drama like 'Prison Break' and 'Bad Girls' to utter shame.

I will have to complete the DVD collection and have an Oz marathon. I used to love watching it every Thursday on TG4.

Prison Break was on network television. They would never have been able to do what they did on Oz.

I don't know why they don't keep showing it. I mean maybe it might have been too gritty for TV or something, but so is a lot of HBO's shows. Yet The Sopranos and Sons Of Anarcy still get shown.

One of the grittiest and most depraved (if thats the right word)shows made, i loved it.
Can anyone remember an episode which featured an IRA prisoner who ended up blowing up his cell with a home-made bomb, (i think he was played by the bus driver from Intermission)

Yeah, Ryan O Reilly was helping him for a while:rolleyes: he gave him products to make a bomb. But towards the end, Ryan started having doubts and alerted everyone about the bomb. Which is why the IRA guy was the only one who died. Although I think someone who was trapped behind a wall in the canteen area got seriously burned and then died. But I can't remember precisely.

    Wikipedia wrote:
In this half of the season a baptist reverend named Jeremiah Cloutier comes to Oz for embezzlement. Cloutier is really a good person who is in Oz for stealing money, so Glynn privileges him more than the other prisoners. As a result Cloutier has a positive impact on several of Oz's inmates but is threatened by Catholic convert Timmy Kirk who is out to cause trouble. Kirk uses his conversion as an excuse to bully several Catholic inmates and then with the help of the Bikers gets Reverend Cloutier trapped into a wall that is being constructed. This gets worse when O'Reilly accidental leaves the gas stove turned on which is then ignited by a CO lighting a cigarette. The resulting explosion destroys the cafeteria leaving Cloutier with third degree burns across his body. The kitchen and Em City are both destroyed and Glynn must send all the inmates to Gen Pop.

So Cloutier then started haunting Hoyt until he mysteriously disappeared and it was revealed towards the end that he had been walled up again and died this time.

Yeah that guy preacher guy. I liked him at first. He somehow managed to help Shillinger find peace, until Beacher admitted to Shillinger he had his son killed. Then Shillinger flipped out and went back ot his old ways.

But he was involved in some weird storylines alright, like when his spirit came to Hoyt in his cell, after he had been burned and brainwashed Hoyt into trying to kill someone.
