I work from home (Laois)for a company based in England. They have an office in Belfast and Dublin. Im trying to find out if its possible to buy a company car in the north and use it in the south. If so what would the benifit in kind be based on and would the car need to be registered in the south. They can buy a Mondeo in the north for the same price as a Focus down here.:eek::mad:

It depends where you pay your tax, I suspect it is in the south. If this is the case you will be liabel for benefit in kind.

If your address is in the south and you can't prove that you spend a considerable amount of time in the North, i.e have an address up there, then the car will need to be registered in the south.

I think it would be open market value of the car. I.e. Price down here. I presume your employer deducts paye from your salary? They'd be responsible for handling the bik.

would you be better off buying the car yourself and getting mileage every time you travel?

I'd agree with this. Mileage can be pretty tasty and is tax free.
