Who do you think has been the most informative poster on the forum over the year of 2008?

Criteria for choosing are up to you, but please explain your choice a bit. This is just for nominations, after people have been nominated I'll throw together a poll with all of the nominees so we can have a vote and crown ourselves a winner.

Love him or hate him, rovert has to take that easily.

Granted his methods of questioning are questionable, if theres a third party site that screws up, rovert will be the first one to make sure the rest of us aren't mislead. He's usually the first one to break all the decent stories, and nine times out of ten, you can take them to the bank.

Ya, i'd second that. Seems to have a good well rounded knowledge of both mainstreama nd indies.

As a long time lurker and occasional poster I'd nominate Shawnraven..yes other folks may have more "in depth" knowledge than him but he never comes across as arrogant in his respones. He seems to know how to contribute to a site without turning everything into an arument or always having have the last word. (or just bludgeoning people with facts and questions until they give up;))

Rovert/ShawnRaven. It's a tough one between these two, it really is. I've come across new information that otherwise I wouldn't have come across if it wasn't for these two. It's a stone cold tie for me.

Please stop ruining these threads, you're not funny, and you sound like you shouldn't be funny.

    Reported btw.

ShawnRaven gets my vote. I find rovert to much of a shill for the wrestling observer and sometimes don't know when it's his opinion or Dave Meltzer's.

Hopefully these popularity contests can be taken in good fun and not too seriously.

These aren't popularity contests, they are recognitions of peoples contributions to the board.

Personally, I'm voting for rovert myself. Knows his stuff backwards and you know if he says something it's almost guaranteed to be true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭RebelRockChick

ShawnRaven, he's full of wrestling knowledge :P

Mention to rovert as well, he knows his stuff!

    Rovert hands down tbh

Between ShawnRaven and rovert but it goes to SR for me.

Very simply Fozzy. No bull**** just good posts all the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I would go with Vince for this. He makes his point well and doesn't trample over your one if you happen to not agree with it.

Remember the UFC/TNA debate we had about 2 years ago? We did a fair bit of trampling on that thread.

    Fozzy or Shawnraven.

Purely because Fozzy would always be all round knowledgeable, without 'in-yer-face' way.
And SR! because he knows shtuff too :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,208 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Shaun Raven and Fozzy know their stuff but this has to go to Rovert, the man really knows his wrestling, anytime I ask him something he answers quickly and concisely. Seriously if Rovert does not win I riot!!!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,602 ✭✭✭✭ShawnRaven

I'm quite flattered here folks, i didn't expect to be mentioned more than once in this thing, i'd have put Fozzy well over me in this. :)

Ain't no shame in coming under either of em as far as i'm concerned. :)

rovert is easily the best here for this award too strangely enough.

I think some of his posts are a bit cut & paste, he blurs that fact/opnion/Meltzer's opinion line a bit too much.

I'm voting Shawn here for this one. Informative is a bit more than just posting some news you read elsewhere. He's consistant, has a sense of humour, knows plenty of history and makes it clear when he's stating opinion.

Edit: Just reading that Perfect dvd thread now and this is the type of quality posts I'm talking about

Someone call the Daily Mail :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,602 ✭✭✭✭ShawnRaven

Nah, i never claimed to know any less or more than Foz or Rovert. I'm just more long winded in my posts. Some like back story, others can't be bothered. :)

    Well good thing I don't hold a grudge. :D

Shawnraven gets my vote anyway. As others have said, while Rovert knows his stuff, really really really knows his stuff, information means nothing if presented badly!!

MNG got me so infuriated in that thread! And just look at each company now :)

I'll vote for rovert on this one. I wouldn't say that he repeats what Meltzer says that much, he's drawn his own conclusions in plenty of cases from shoot interviews and books and whatever else

I'm 100% a lurker, on here three four times a day but never post becuase I can never add anything meaningful to the proceddings but my knowledge of wrestling has gone through the roof and that's becuase of Rovert and ShawnRaven. They know their stuff, both have very different methods of putting them across but both are equally sucessful. It's a toss between the two, Shawn MARGINALLY shades it for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

So its obviously rovert, shawn, fozzy and vince up for the poll?

If we do a poll, KKV could be the true underdog champ like Rey. If he won it he would prob walk around Louth with a mask on.

roverts fact facts facts approach isnt the way to win friends on a forum, so i lean towards shawn raven for this poll

Agreed, maybe he is not out to make friends either but it does get a trifle irritating. I'm for ShawnRaven.

This is the best we can ask for. Well done for your wiseness. Your approach should be taken into consideration from all posters.

Minto for the award BTW. He's like the unwanted ginger child of this forum, but we love him for it. Fozzy would get my second choice vote.

I wouldn't go that far. It was Minto who left because of a lack of interest anymore. Minto contributed a hell of a lot to PW, the fantasy league was quite successful before had to quit on it. The podcast wouldn't have been what it was without him (believe me, I tried more than once).

Minto got fed up with Pro Wrestling, period. I can't say I blame him.

    Dam right!
But should that not mean a vote for him as face of the year?

Why would he need to win a poll to do that :p

In terms of contribution to the forum, in my opinion it's got to be Shawn Raven. He contributes a wealth of information and is very articulate in expressing his opinions. Don't remember him ever making what i'd regard as negative contributions, which is something that cannot be said for everyone.

    Who?

An old nickname of mine, a shortened version of my surname. I've no idea why i picked that as a nickname, i think i snorted too many lines of cocaine at the time and thought it was a great idea! Hindsight being 20/20

Its between Shawnraven, Rovert and Fozzy obviously. Shawn's knowledge of historical North American mainstream wrestling is unparralled and I've learnt shedloads from his posts over the years. But rovert and fozzy may just pip him on their all-round knowledge of the indies, the Japanese scene and by just being slightly more up to date on the current product. So I'll give it to rovert as hes more prolific poster than the Fozz.
