I've put together more than a few pc's but this is the first time i've ever looked to build an HTPC so i'm completely flummoxed with the various tv card options out there!

Basicly i'd like to be able to both view and record, which seems to mean I need a dual tuner card. I'm on analogue NTL cable, and will be for the next year or two, so i'm not sure what would best suit this, should I go for two seperate hybrid digital/analoge pci cards so I can just set them to digital when I convert in the future? Or will MCE refuse to accept seperate cards assigned to recording/viewing?

I seem to find many digital/analogue combination cards but no dual analogue, would this suit the purpose http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=364175 ?

MCE will allow both multiple cards or dual tuner cards as long as their channel numbers match. The hauppauge pvr500 was a popular dual analogue tuner but its not made anymore afaik. You might pick one up off ebay. Up to you whether to go hybrid or not. If you know what you will move to after ntl, it seems to make sense to have the cards for it so you don't have a redundant card next year or whenever. Recording from both or view&record will work.

Cheers for that, I think I might follow your suggestion and just try and pick up a second hand dual analogue tuner card, I could end up second guessing and spending over twice as much one a hybrid that won't even fit changes made down the line, especially if it has to be dual hybrid tuners. Are there any other decent dual analogue cards about I should keep an eye out for, I couldn't see any for sale new?
