    I have a DELL Vostro 1500 laptop.

I am currently using a PCMCIA card type 1394a to connect the laptop to a camera.

The connection is made to the card using a P1394b cable. I think (based only on looking at the plugs on either end of the cable) that it's 9 pin (camera end) to 6 pin.

    1. Can I (and should I) use a 1394b card with this laptop? After all, the cable is type b.

    2. Can I (and should I) use a 9 pin to 9 pin cable?

    3. Every time I insert the PCMCIA card after booting up, I get a "New hardware detected" message followed by (usually!!) a "Your new hardware is now ready to use". Should I get this everytime? Which drivers should I be using and how can I tell which drivers the computer is installing?

The combination I have has been working fine up to last week when it started acting up and kept losing the connection with the camera. DELL suggested a system restore to day 1. i.e. the way it was when it arrived. I didn't mind because I only use the laptop for digital capture.

But, I'd like to know if the combination is correct.

    Many thanks.

    D.
