right some c&c on this please.....or actually its more c&c on the processing i need.....theoriginal image has no blow outs etc but I processed it like this to be a little fantastical.(in a fairytale sense).does it in some way work or more likely does it just look like a badly processed image?
    1000 thanks in advance

I like the picture but I think I'd prefer it if the towers weren't at the dead centre of the image. Also perhaps the sky needs a little bit of contrast?

    Was this taken in Prague?

Would it be possible to pop up the original so it's clearer what you have done?

nice image, good crop - really like the gradient in the sky!

however, I've never been a fan of the halo highlights which seem to be an artifact of over using the highlight/shadow tool in photoshop. all the roofs of the buildings in this have a glow around them, quite distracting. maybe try some class of ND grad effect instead of highlight/shadow to bring out the detail in your sky

Heh. The chemtrail nutbars over on CT would wet themselves over that sky... :D

Great image, Prague is a fantastic spot for taking photographs. Can't believe your hotel was slap bang in Old Town Sq.
I much prefer the cropped version, more pleasing on the eye or something and the sky looks great too. Pity about those halo's. Looking forward to seeing the origonal later.

do you have lightroom 2? there's a dedicated ND grad tool in it
I'm sure the same thing can be done with gradient masks and exposure control in photoshop, but the lightroom way is a lot easier

Superfly if you have access to a program that includes curves you could make this into an amazing shot. Bring down the sky a bit and you would really get the fairytale sky you want whilst still keeping the colour that is in the rest of the picture. I can almost see it with bright cartoon like colours and a soft glow.

    Gorgeous shot.

yup i have photoshop and ligthroom (and gimp on this pc). On the sky I did a slight s cruve to boost the contrast as suggested.I dotn know a huge amount about curves. How would you go about bringing down the sky?

Basically you do a fine s at the top of the graph you pull it in towards the right ever so slightly. Then close to the centre of the graph lift it back up. This way anything that goes real dark brightens back up.

I can show you result if you like.

Ok I spent like 2 mins doing this so dont expect anything absolutely amazing or anything. I took out a couple of the people on the square too just to smooth it over

feather is different thought thats when u select an area of an image, soften is opposite to sharpen but there may be a moredetailed soften selection where u add glow.

it similar effect to what paint shop calls a glamour filter, light room might have similar. waiting on download to complete to confirm.

I prefer the original view but think it would be improved by cloning out cars and traffic lights. The horse and carriage adds to the atmoshpere as well.

cool cos ive nto heard of it before. I was only thinkin that for a glow sometimes I duplicated the layer, gaussian blur it and then set the display mode to screen and adjust the opacity.

To be an alternate voice on this one (apologies in advance) - i'm not mad on it (originally posted). Its not bringing me back to fairytale land of never never.

I think as a scene its obviously a fabulous place but i think what i don't like about it is that the light was fading at this point (by the looks of things) and 1/2 the image is clouded in shadow whilst the other half is bathed in wonderful golden hour sunlight. I don't think the contrast works to yield an overall aesthetically pleasing scene.

I think it can be difficult to capture such a scene in perfect light conditions - i find the architectural busy-ness of such scenes can provide difficulty for the photographer in knowing what to include or what to exclude. Architectural photography is a genre in itself.

Ah, maybe its just me - most others seem to like it - bah humbug()

Remember - it's only an opinion and mine can most definitely be wrong on these matters :)

thanks for yer opinion on this!! well its difficult to describe what I wanted with the processing...it was a boost in colour and a degradation of the image i was kind of going for.i think ill start from scratch using smelltheglvoes advice!!

    First post here.
I had a little play with this in cs4. tweaked levels on sky, use clone tool to try and remove some of the halo which the levels tweaking showed even more.
Removed a few ppl and other obstructions from the foreground.
Also tweaked the levels independently in the foreground.
Its a nice image to start with, good capture.
    Hope you dont mind.
    Al
PS. Its a bit messy in the left foreground, but the match is on and I didnt spend much time on it!
