IRELAND: The Railway Procurement agency has ordered a further eight Alstom Citadis trams for use on Dublin 's Luas network from early 2010.

The €21m contract announced on December 1 is an option on a March 2007 agreement. Alstom has previously supplied Dublin with 40 Citadis cars, and another 18 are currently under construction at La Rochelle.

The latest Dublin option means that a total of 1 180 Citadis cars have now been ordered by 29 cities.

What are these for? The extended lines or a new line or who?

Speaking of new, the new B1 bridge in Sandyford looks great. Is all the line elevated or is it just this bit?

there's no new lines that have gone through the planning process - just extensions. I'd imaging these are to maintain frequency once the cherrywood extension is open (longer line needs more trams).

There are major bridges at the main roundabout at Sandyford Industrial Estate, one over the M50 nearby and another on the M50 at Carrickmines and finally at the R118 / M50 spur at Cherrywood. Otherwise it is essentially at street level along Ballogan Road and cross-country from Carrickmines to Cherrywood.

Thanks Victor. Do you know of / have any recent photos? Seeing the Sandyford bridge got me interested in this. :)

Don't forget the major underpass at the (non-existent) spine road.

A perfect example of what happens when this country finally listens to the experts and builds infrastructure before the developers move in. You end up pouring millions and millions of euro into a hole in the ground that isn't needed for at least another decade. :)

Speaking of Cherrywood, I see the signs have now been changed to declare opening in 2010 rather than 2009.
