Picking Wool

I hope this is the right forum!

When we were kids, my granny used to send us out into the sheep field to pick up all the stray bits of wool that were in it. We'd bring it back in a plastic bin-liner and she'd burn it in the fire, she didn't even use it as kindling.

Was there a reason for this or was she just trying to keep us busy?

Cattle or sometimes sheep could eat it, it would ball up in the stomach and cause problems. Thats why we did it in our farm years and years ago.

Thank God, I thought it was all a lie and it was sullying my memories of my lovely Granny. My mam said she was made do it as a child too but couldn't think why. I'll have to tell her.
