Check out the Panasonic 42PZ80(UK Spec)or 42PY80(Irish spec), if I was in the market for a 42" 1080 set it would be my choice.

komplett.ie sells the pz80,does that mean that it wont work in ireland?

it will work in ireland no problem.

the PZ doesn't have a UHF tuner though (standard ntl basic pipe) so if you have digital or it doesn't concern ya, you can buy the PZ without problems.

this is the only difference between the PZ and PY models.

i have the py80 myself and i still hug it every night, such a great TV, casino royale is great in 1080p and i can't wait to see what the dark knight will be like.

you need the buy the PY80 if you want to plug in aerial yes.

although i'm sure there are other panasonics that have an aerial connection it's just between the PZ80 and the PY80 only the PY80 has it.

I see the Panasonic TH42PZ81B has Freesat HD. I saw on the Pixmania site that all you need to do is plug it into the sky aerial to recieve the HD channels as the Sky Dish can pick the HD channels up. Surely thats not correct?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Zonda999

No, thats all you have to do. The pz81 has a slot to plug in the lead from the sky-dish(Or any mini dish). Be aware, though, that freesat dont include any of the irish channels. That said, the pz81 also has an mpeg4 tuner so you'll be able to pick up Irish DTT when its launched next year. Your normal roof aeriel should pick that up.

So does that mean, If I bought this TV, I could install a satellite and pick up Free HD channels (Obviously a load of foreign crap id assume ?, but better than nothing)

EDIT: Can you even receive freesat in ROI ?Isin't it only for the UK

there are some decent channels on freesat to be fair. List of the here. Only a few HD channels at the mo but that should increase in time

    I already sky+ dish.
Can I use the cables coming down already to the TV for the Freesat HD? (as in split them with a splitter to feed into the Sky box, and the TV)
Or as it has a 4 LMB on it which I am using only 2, would I have to use a spare point on the LMB for the FreesatHD?

Afaik you'd need another lead coming from the lnb for freesat hd

if you dont want to run another cable from your sat, you can use the existing cable with a sat switch.

you must flick the switch for when you sky and then flick it again for freesat.

    i use this one,

Mine was delivered (today !) from Richersounds, stg£900 + 20 delivery, I thought the price was excellent, exchange rate made it all the better and the outstanding service from John Mc and the lads was brilliant, so props to them !

Don't know the difference betwen the "B" and "E" designation, but it's absolutely cracking, the built in Freesat tuner is super, BBCHD really shows the Panny off at it's best, yum !

Read somewhere yesterday that the 5 fans make an awful lot of noise? can you confirm/rubbish this claim please?

The only way I discovered it had fans at all was when I was checking some cables behind the unit it sits on, my head was right next to the top of the screen and I could detect a very very faint "whooshing" noise. We watch from a sofa about 7ft from the screen, can't hear anything other than the sound of whatever is playing on the tv, total non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

Thats great lads, 20 pound delivery really is good. I have a lidl satellite set up that I bought yonks ago, Would I be able to connect that to the tv any recieve the freesat ?

Provided the dish is pointed at the Astra satellite (28.2) as it would be for recieving SKY, you'd be grand. If you don't have a dish already set up you might wnat to hop over to the Satellite forum for further advice. I already have a couple of dishes, hooked mine up to a spare LNB slot, when the TV is turned on first time it finds all the satelite channels, sorts them under different categories, couldn't be easier.
