If this is the wrong thread please move. I have a figure in dollars from 1899. Ho can I update it to reflect it's equivilant today in euro or dollar?

Multiply it by 0.0473754027 for the dollar amount or by 0.0372408565 for the euro amount should get it roughly.

It's called adjusting for inflation. You take the price and divide it by the CPI (consumer price index); the CPI being a level relative to your base year. The Bureau of Labor [sic] Statistics in the U.S. measures the CPI since 1913, as far as I am aware. Here's their calculator:

I'm sure there's a guesstimate calculator for pre-1913.
