They increasing the fees alright not sure by what amount they actually announced it last year didnt make sense to any of us working in the building trade work was starting to slow down and they jack up the fees.
Sometimes i really wonder if its a family of chimps making all these silly decisions.

Could be wrong on this one but does your fee not relate to the size of your house bigger the house bigger the fee????

Laois County (through our councillors) have passed a vote to increase the development levies. The cost of building a one off house in the country has gone from the region of €1,900 to €5,000+. the levy for building in the town varies, as you will have to pay for connection to water/sewage. The Fee for applying for permission hasn't changed. The Council website is very good and it details all the levies.

heres a run down of changes:

    http://www.laois.ie/media/Media,4515,en.pdf

for rural houses with own well and treatment system....
e.g. Rural House up to 200m2 with its own well and wastewater treatment the development contribution = €2,700 e.g. Rural House larger than 200m2 with its own well and wastewater treatment the development contribution = €2,700 + €13.50 per m2 for each m2 over 200m2

    so no need to panic......

the only way these 'contributions' increase is if its an urban dwelling connecting to public water, public sewers, etc

then you are talking about a basic rate of €8500 up to 200 sq m

and if there is significant upgrading of infrastructure locally.. ie town treatment systems, town water etc...
these will be charged for additionally
