    Hi,

I have a Dell Vostro 1700 and its in great condition, not a problem with it. The only thing that is annoying me is when I close the laptop over,(whether its plugged in or not) it seems to shut down and restart itself. This happens after about 20-30mins of it being closed over I think. I dont think it happens everytime but 90% of the time it happens. Then when I log back in it comes up saying 'Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown'.

Does anybody know why this could be happening?

    Cheers.

Okay i might have an idea of what's going on. What are you using to control your power settings? Is it dell's own power settings? I think it's called quick set or something like that?
What i think may be happening, is that when you close the lid, the software is set so it will put it on standby, and after a specified time it will try to hibernate to save battery, and windows is crashing when it tries to hibernate.

Yeah i'm using the Dell Recommended its called when i'm on the battery life. But I checked the power saving options and I have it set to 'sleep' when I close the lid when its on battery or plugged in so it shouldn't be going into hibernate should it?

Ok I found a little setting that said it went into hibernation after a certain amount of time so i just put that to 'never' so hopefully this won't happen again. Cheers.

Try it and see how she goes. I think that'll sort you out.
