Does anyone know what the craic is with going on your ticket? What is the quickest you can get discharged? I have been offered a job and need to start asap, I know that I have to get a medical done that can take a while to get aranged but other than that what holds it up? Do you have to work a months notice or if you have leave can you use it to cut that down? Im going into work tomorrow to find out but was just wandering if anyone here has any ideas

Go to your orderly room, tell them you wish to apply for your discharge. Arrange the medical (the discharge medical is pretty quick) if you have PDL, then you must apply for and use up your annual leave first, you run this into your PDL.

Coming to the final days of your leave you unit might ring you to remind you that your time is almost up. If you decide to stay out you just don't report back on that date, although if you have a good working relationship with your orderly room they might give you a few more days grace before sending your discharge papers to command (BUT THEIR NOT OBLIGIED TO DO THIS).

    After that your a civilian.

If your still in contract forget the above and go speak to your orderly room sgt.

Finally, best of luck in your new career. There's not many who have the balls to leave a secure job like the Defence Forces at the moment.

It was quick enough for me.

Tell the cs you want to go , apply for discharge, start the leave, see officer, hand in ordinance, hand over money(i had to buy myself out) and leg it.Finish leave and you are a civvy.

As Mairt says it depend on your relationship with the orderly room as to how efficiently you are processed.

This was 11 years ago though there may be a few more snags now.

Everything Mairt said is bang on...except if you're in an Infantry Company before you make it official with the Orderly Room you must apply in writing through your Company Sgt to you Company Commander and inform him first.

If you want out fast keep on their backs and they will get things done. It took me a week and was in the same position as you. Had to start the new job on a certain date, as a pre employment cource for the new job was required
