Advice when Dealing with international equipment supplies

    Hi People,
I'd say a good few of you have had dealings with Thomann over the years.. I'm after some advice.. I made a 500 odd euro order with them in November and it never turned up. When I got hold of DHL they told me that a load of Thomann Parcels had got as far as UK but were not Labelled with Ireland on the shipping label so were only getting as far as Hatfield UK & then sent back. I cancelled the order there and then as I wanted my gear actually delivered & got the stuff from Dolphin.
A month later Thomann are still messing me around with a refund. Firstly they said that the parcel needed to be returned before the refund has been issued. I replied with the fact , A) I hadn't received parcel in the first place to return it & B) I doesn't take a month to get a parcel back from UK ( where the tracking said it was stuff ) to Germany..
So now they're saying DHL have lost it & are saying that they won't refund me until DHL has creditted them for a lost parcel..

Has anyone else had crap like this.. ?? Any advice? Is there an EU financial Watchdog?

I got this on credit card so daily bloody interest!

    Rob

1/ call your credit card compnay , tell them you wish to claim a charge back for non delivery of goods - and give them all the details - do not mention anything other then you didnt get the goods and thomann wont refund you .

2/ thomann will have to produce evidence that the goods were delivered to you to challenge this . ( ie signature )

3/ they wont be able to prove you got them - so will have to pay you back.

I have bought a share of stuff off Thomann and never encountered a problem like this before.

If you bought it with a credit card pursue it with your credit card company. They will then take it up with Thomann or DHL. Probably the handiest way.

There could be any one of a number of reasons for this having happened. Who knows. Ultimately you shouldn't have to be footing interest charges while they get it sorted.

Thats why I stick to UK dealers.
    Much less hassle...

Even simpler if you care to source local.

If any of my customers we just sort the problem, real simple.

Not sure what these lads do exactly, but I read a while back that they took some car rental companies to task for scamming foreigners on damage deposits etc. There's a section for shopping online within the EU. You could do worse than giving them a call just to see if they can intervene in any way.

I know this is of no help to your situation, but may help you in the future...

Personally, if I need something from Thomann, I tend to buy it through Music Technology who are based in North Lotts. As far as I am aware they are Irish distributors for Thomann.

Chargeback is the best option. You'll get your money back and the parcel becomes all thomanns problem. Make sure you tell the CC company you've done all you can to get your money back or the parcel and that thomann wont budge.

That's all very complex isn't it?

I ended up getting my refund.. Well they said I had, it isn't showing on my card statement yet..

In hindsight I won't be dealing with overseas companies again. When things go wrong you end up being passed around several clueless reps with limited english.
What I was amazed at was the "no claims" statement they dressed up saying that they needed me to fill in this before they could claim from DHL & before I had my refund.. I read between the lines of it afterwards & it was basically a declaration to say that I wasn't gonna persue claiming from them via my card company & had passed this right on to them.. sounds very dodgy..

Anyway lesson learned.. Won't be buying much till after Xmas but think I'll be staying local !!

I've heard the very same scenario many times before ...
