Sky Plus Recording Problem

    Hi

I recently got Sky + at home and have been playing around with it for the last few days.

I've recorded and viewed many programs and all have worked perfectly.

I set up Fair City on series link as well as all the other soaps for my mother and didn't think about it again.

However last night Fair City recorded (well at least that's what the planner says) but I cannot view it no matter what I do. I've gone into it the normal way and tried from the start, from viewer defined point & from the end but none will open. The sky box doesn't even say anything it just refuses to open it and I have to press the "Sky" button to get out of the planner.

Has anyone experienced this or have any pointers about how I could solve the problem in the future.

All other programs that recorded on series link last night worked and were viewable.

Thanks in advance for your help

I had a similar problem with a couple of recordings over the last week.

Only option was to delete them I'm afraid.

The Sky+ software is getting increasingly dodgy.

Thats what you get for recording Fair City :D

On a serious note, mine was at that too. In fact it wouldn't even delete the programme I recorded.

Did the old turn it off at wall, wait, turn it on at wall, wait, trick and no probs since but I agree with Wiggy.

Seems to be a Sky Software issue.

See my post at http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=58039585#post58039585 to see how to "temporarily" cure the problem, until the spoons in Sky get the finger out and fix it for us!

thanks for the replies... i'll try what was recommended and see if it happens again.. its not really good enough given how much money we fork over for the service

    Thanks

I think most of us have had those failed recordings (even though there's no msg to suggest that) .. delete and move on is what I've done. It tends to happen in batches (2 in 1 week, none for the next 3, etc.), but that might just be my usage pattern.

For something relatively simple, Sky+ software is quite unreliable. If you really want something, make sure to record a repeat of the same show as well!

I've had this problem a couple of times over the years. Very frustrating, as there is no acknowledgment that the recording has failed, but there's just no way to see it! Oddly, with me it has never happened with any of the Sky or BBC channels, just RTE.

This has happened to me too!
I think its good to completey boot down the sky+ box once every few days - i do this as it freezes up sometimes.
    works perfect then.

    anyone else do that?

sorry this is the most noob question i've ever posted to a forum but how exactly do i power down the sky + box fully... do i just plug it out or is there a sequence of things i should do

obviously when i press the power button it only goes into standby and is not fully powered down

    apologies & thanks

just put it onto standby, power it off @ the socket, wait 10 or 20 seconds, switch the socket back on, power it up and voila!:P

Yup, I do the same. I've noticed regular rebooting is key to prevention and cure of most problems with Sky+ box

Not a ridiculous question at all.
BTW - are you getting the MAX out of yer box, like do you have all the "hidden" other channels stored in like BBC3, BBC4, Five etc etc to add to your enjoyment of the box?

I used to leave hd box on standby all the time, but now I switch it off at the mains all the time unless I'm recording something late at night, I have to say that the box seems to be performing much better now, touch wood

Ah yeah i do have all the extra channels... did a bit of reading up on unlocking channels before I got the box but my installer was good enough to do it for us anyway.

    Thanks though

You can't record from the other channels like ITV or Five can you? Tried pressing record when in one of the channels but it didn't do anything at all

No - you can't record unless it's on the programme guide. It's a big downside for the likes of BBC 3 / 4 for me and I've complained to SKY a number of times about it. I've got a separate FTA box with a hard drive, but it's in the bedroom so not exactly convenient if you want to connect it to the sound system. Freesat PVR in the New Year, perhaps and bye, bye SKY;)

Yes, its annoying that we cant view the schedule or
record of the "other channels" - a real pain!

well, at least we can see them anyways.:)
