Got a laptop recently, was working fine but the other day starting acting a pain, error message came up at random, something to do with Windows Genuine Advantage software or something and I'm now unable to download updates.

Computer told me to download the WGA plugin off Microsoft. I tried this but every time I try to get it through their site, I get an error message saying the connection was refused.

Also tried getting WGA plugin off a mirror site but then I get an error message saying the Installation Info Date is unavailbe.

    Anyone able to help here?

Some people are mistakenly told their copy of Windows is boot-leg. Are you trying to download the WGA tool using Internet Explorer? It's much of a no go otherwise.

    No, I'm using Firefox.

The WGA tool is an ActiveX plugin, you must download it using IE (unfortunately).

I'm not seeing the ActiveX appearing whenever I go onto the site on Internet Explorer.

    Any ideas?

Found this download. It verifies if your copy is genuine. If this insists your copy is not genuine, follow the instructions it gives to contact Microsoft and clear it up. State your case -- genuine licence.

I'm unable to get onto that page either.

Every time I try, I'm told that my connection is refused.

That's sounding somewhat like a DNS issue. Does this link work?

I can get into the page you link to, but I'm unable to download the file it tries to send.

I get an error message (80244019) when I try to update with Windows Update, internet says this is a DNS issue but their remedies don;t seem to work.

Anything you can reccomend? I tried flushing the DNS with Command Prompt but no luck.
Also tried WIndows Defender and Spybot to see if it's a virus. Nothing doing.
