Co-ax output from HTPC

I have a HTPC setup and it working fine. Receiving all FTA channels via DVB-S pci card. Receiving RTE and TV3 via DVB-T pci card. EPG working fine too.

I still have my Sky+ box however and I want to get rid of it. The only reason I still have it is because there's a co-ax cable running from the Sky+ box to the tv upstairs (with a magic eye). Is there anyway to get a similar setup from the HTPC. Ideally, I want to have a co-ax out from the HTPC (currently have HDMI going to TV only). Anyone have any ideas or done something similar?

My mobo is one of these:

One option is to use a modulator. This takes a composite input and converts it to a specified frequency on coax. They are built into a VCR. i.e. Output composite + audio to scart input of VCR, turn channel to AV on VCR, then any TV connected to VCR can tune what your HTPC.

You can buy modulators from maplins I think and probably ebay (if you don't wan to use your VCR).

I don't know of a way to convert HDMI to analogue so you'll probable need a dual display and move your MC to which display you are watching. Bit of a pain in the behind!

Or if your TV upstairs accepts HDMI, you could run some sort of cable to connect them and do a cloned display.

    Thanks bazwaldo.

The VCR is a good idea, but there's no composite out from the HTPC.

The best I can think of so far is to cancel my Sky subscription and use the Sky box as an FTA receiver for the TV upstairs. But the downside of that is I don't get to use power of the HTPC upstairs.

You'll need get a gfx card with svideo or composite out (TV out). 50 yoyos should get you a decent HDMI/DVI and TV out card.

Will I be able to have HDMI out and svideo out and from the PC at the same time?

Yes. Using dualview, you can have you HDMI output as the primary and the svideo as the secondary. The secondary will need 720x576 resolutiont to work I think. Although I'm sure I had it working at a higher res before.

If you only want one display where the outputs are a clone of each other, then they will also share the same resolution, which wont look great on your flat panel.

Dualview is available through windows display settings or nvidia/ati control panel.
