    Hey

Audacity is cross-platform and should do what you need just fine:

    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac

    And yep, it's free :).

    Mp3 Trimmer: http://deepniner.net/mp3trimmer/

It's shareware, but can be used without registering (there's just a nag screen at launch)

Cool thing about it is that it lets you edit (trim or split) MP3 files without re-encoding, so you don't loose quality through re-compression.

    thanks for all the replies.

i tried audacity and used the silence finder thing under the 'analyze' menu to find the gaps (its an audiobook so i wanted to split by chapter, and i know there is gaps of 2/3 secs between each) but after i run the silence finding option, nothing happens. It runs, says how long it will take...but when its done , i get no message -it just looks the same.

Should it tell you the result or do something...or am i being totally stupid here?:o

Is Audacity labeling the various split points correctly? Silence finder only labels the files AFAIK, but you then have to export them to save them as separate files. There is a pretty detailed wiki page here:

    http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Splitting_recordings_into_separate_tracks

if you want to give it another go...

I haven't tried Audacity, but MP3 Trimmer works great for me.
