haven't used that one, but my hauppauge nova2 is rock solid, can fully recommend it. BTW, you know you won't get C4 HD? ti's still encrypted by sky. you'll need a cam setup with a viewing card t get C4, ITVhd and bbch hd are no problem

I haven't used that one either. I have used Hauppauge 150MCE and the HVR 4000. I have found the HVR 4000 frustrating. It works, but the epg is patchy, only showing a limited number of channels. I've found Haupauge customer support to be very poor. Window Media Player doesn't do HD, unless you have the TV pack which was released this year and appears to be a palava to install if it hasn't come preloaded on your machine.

all the problems you listed are software related rather than hardware. i use mediaportal, and epg support is a full 2 weeks, downloaded using xmltv. HD playback needs coreavc to be installed, again i have full support for hd tvchannels in mediaportal. Windows media centre is notoriously poor in it's HD and tv card support, as is windows in general. Simply adding a third party solution which also happens to be free solves many of the problems

Turns out a Nova-S2 is only about €73 from Dabs.ie. Might go with this instead.

Am considering switching from GB-PVR to MythDora, and ineterstingly both the TeVii card and the Nova-S2 are supported under Linux.

How much time would I have to spend setting up and understanding media portal and xmltv? I had a look at the xmltv website before, but it didn't look too straightforward. I don't remember coming across freesat channels epg on amltv.

    Cheers

depends. they have a pretty good wiki with all the information you should need to set it up. it's pretty straightforward most of the time. However if you do have a problem, and post it on their forum, you will generally get a reply back inside of 10 minutes which says "well it works fine on my system so there is no problem", which to me is the most stupid and unhelpful answer ever.

as for the epg, why do you want the freesat epg? all the decent freesat channels are available fta a lot longer than freesat is available, and the full epg has been available for them using xmltv for years. all the BBC's, ITVS, C4, E4's, more 4's and the fives are all availbe on xmltv, plus many many more.

I'm using Technotrend PCI DVB-s2 with ProgDVB and CoreAVC. Fine on BBC HD.

many brands use the Technotrend HW either directly or by licence design.

    Thanks all.

watty, I thought many used Twinhan designs, as Twinhan are an actual chip maker?

Twinhan are the OTHER main OEM supplier :)

Technotrend are German Design house. The boards could be made by anyone anywhere.

    Twinhan are Tiawan Design/Manufacturer.

I don't beleive either designs or makes any of the Chips.
