I'm sure this will prove popular but wasn't it only months ago we had people ranting and raving about never using Hibernian due to their out sourcing.

    Money talks.

tell that to the 580 people that are losing their jobs so that vivas can move their positions to India. I know its the wrong forum but I suggest we boycott Hibernian health.

The brits were saying the same until they realised the service from Outsourcing were crap and they eventually had to bring it all back

You pay for what you get.

I was actually going to bring this up... Dell did the same, they setup their customer service and sales over in india and they ended up having so many problems they actually brought them back to cherrywood.

I'm wondering if its worth the savings when your trying to explain your sensitive health issues and worries with problematic language barriers in the way.

Boycotting Hibernian is a nice thought.

Seems like everyone going north for shopping. Should that be boycotted? I guess it will have some impact on the jobs here.......

But at this grim economic scenario everyone is looking to save some penny and can you fault them?

They did scale back on outsourcing because Hibernian health increased their staff. Their only call centre is in Cork !

I'm sure I heard an ad on the radio today for Hibernian saying "call us today in Galway on....."

I think that would be a call centre for their general insurance - different company. The health call centre is in Cork.

Bit late on this one.... :)

I resent that remark. not everyone will be going up north for shopping. I certainly wont be and I imagine It will actually be a small amount of the general population of the republic that will. What will happen is that retailers closer to the border will be screwed by the fact that the british government reduced their VAT in the UK and made the trip very worthwhile to a wily consumer, which is very unfortunate for the people in question but is not caused by a large corporation deciding to boost their profit margins by making people redundant in a big cost saving exercise. /End of rant ;)

Yes. I heard the same thing. They are definitely outsourcing to India. I know someone with Hibernian who is directly in the firing line and is threatened with redundancy - although I heard their union is kicking up a hell of a racket over it.

Thing is Hibernian isn't even in financial difficulty. It's just their sheer greed to want to make more and more profit at the expense of their Irish workers.

as far as i'm aware ,hibernian have just outsourced some of their call centre functions to India, like for people phoning in to change the car on their policy cos they got a new one etc. They have their claims centre and sales centre in knocknacarra Galway, and the hibernian health is in Cork, then of course you've got the head office in Dublin.to Say that hibernian health (vivas) is moving to India is bogus as they only took over vivas in the last year, and they would not outsource something like this as they are still trying to break the vhi's virtual monopoly over the health insurance market, wouldn't inspire confidence in the irish public if they're dealing with people who don't understand their accents,i'd imagine it'd be especially difficult in making health claims.

Stimulating a business like healthcare at the moment ,would promote jobs I think. Even if jobs were lost in this sector ,it would probably save far more somewhere else.

I think if people can pay for healthcare it discourages them from choosing the government/Dole.

Do Hibernian do a plan that would give cover to an individual for a private room in a public hospital?

No. They only do private rooms in private hospitals.

The chances of getting a private room in a public hospital these days are slim to none.

Looking at the deal (including the fine print) it seems quite competitive, certainly one to consider.

In the past I have found that there are always things to haggle for on the phone, Quinn completely waived the weeks without cover (I didn't have insurance previously) and offered incentives on top. They all may do this.

Now for the off topic bit.

Times are tough. In our town about 1/3rd of the workers are possibly going to face redundancy. The thought of me taking my money to spend in another country makes me ill.
Yes, we may be overcharged, yes the service may be poor in comparison. But this is our country and these are our families losing their jobs. Support them.

Yes me/I/we level 2 will provide that cover but as another poster pointed out there is no guarantee that you will get a private room in a public hospital for any insurer let alone then through the public system. The important point is that the health insurer would pay the bill if you were "lucky" enough to get a private room. One could liken it to room occupancy in a hotel - if a hospital has an empty room and they know that a patient has private medical health insurance that will pay the higher bill versus public patient - I'm wondering who would get the room first ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭zuroph

the private patient, thats what private rooms are for. wards are for public patients.

Hibernian are now raising the prices on their products - passing the €160 'health levy' onto it's customers:

    http://www.independent.ie/health/latest-news/hibernian-hikes-cost-of-health-care-to-cover-levy-1580547.html

For example the 'We' plan will jump from €589 per adult to €717

Yeah this health levy is an absolute disgrace, Hibernian have set up a website and are urging all its member to sign their online petition against this levy.

I see that the VHI are also increasing their price for plan b options to a whopping €900 from the new year, robbing ba$tards.

These new charges wont be in situ until January at the earliest. No regulations have been issued yet so it may be further down the road. Sign up online before 30th Dec and you will get your insurance at the Offer rate and it is guaranteed to hold for 2009

Hmm. Have they done anything to get the consultants to modify their rates ? Or are consultants too much of a sacred cow to be attacked ?
