skype disappears when creating acc/signing in

    hi i am new to this VoIP forum. i have downloaded skype to my laptop. it has never worked. initially after downloading i then had the form 'create a new skype account' open to create an new account, as you do. when entering my details the skype application just suddenly disappears. so i then got a mate to create an account for me with a username and password, the account worked for her on her laptop.
    so i then opened the main 'welcome to skype' window and entered the sign in details and the same thing happened. skype closed down. i have tried this around 30 times and, yes, i un-installed and re-installed skype loads of times.

    this is driving me crazy. please help. i am with O2 broadband, maybe O2 wont allow me to use skype???.

    Are you sure that Skype isn't running down on the taskbar?

    Also try Ctrl+Alt+Del, click on <Task Manager> & <Processes>. Look for 'Skype.exe' in the left-hand column.
