Was thinking of making a website for myself. I knows theres a million threads on this, but cant remember any discussing the best places to find templates. I rekon the easiest thing to do is to make it in dreamweaver/frontpage with a free template and then host it on hosting365 for (€4/month).

Does anyone have any advice on doing this? Sites to download good templates (and yes i have already googles "free html templates", but not great).

I really like Sasar's website (www.sasar.net), very simple and clean. If anyone has advice it would be really appreciated.

For templates you could try www.templateworld.com

    I'd avoid using MS Frontpage.

For dreamweaver, there's plenty of free CSS templates out there, such as at http://www.freecsstemplates.org/ or http://www.free-css-templates.com/

    I second OSWD.
You might also take a look at Styleshout. Some gorgeous designs there.

How are you with Dreamweaver? Hand coding?
If you are weak with the above would you maybe consider a Wordpress installation with a Wordpress Theme?
Extremely easy to install and use/edit.

Thanks for bringing this up k, I was slowly trawling through stuff both here and through google trying to wrap my head around the whole website thing and getting nowhere.

Now the keenest photographically minded internet gurus in Ireland are on the case on our behalf! Hurray

Hurray indeed. I have very little dreamweaver knowledge, im just messing around on it really. I got a template and im trying to change things around on it, and failing badly. Some bits of it im ok with, like making the images in photoshop that fit the tables etc, but theres things that i know are probably really easy to do, that are mind boggling to me at the moment.

One thing that i find is that theres parts of a lot of templates that id like to have, but obviously can only use one.

I was thinking if it would be more straight forward to make a table and do it myself or not?

It would be a start, you should play around with it for a while. Breaking down templates and tinkering with the code will give you a great insight into how a site should be.
Tables are only recommended for tabular data. You should be using divs for structuring your website. There's an option in Dreamweaver, if you are using it, in the layout tab called Draw AP DIV. This allows you to draw how you want your site structured. Just play around with it and give us a shout if you run into trouble.

As an aside (sorry if this is hijacking), I've seen a few people here with lovely sites, and loads of pics.

I was just wondering would there be any interest from the less profligate people (like me!) who might only have two or three pics of a decent standard to set up a shared website that people could buy prints from?

I'd have to work out the logistics, but the general idea is that the people involved would watermark their photos with their own names, have a page with contact details for each contributor, and maybe a link to a printing place for direct printing of various pictures (would need a lot of thought about how to give the cash to the right people). Any thoughts on this idea?

Do people really buy photos from websites very often. I would seriously doubt that.

Oh, I always kind of assumed that's why people had their own sites (that and advertising, in the case of people like wedding photographers etc.). Hmm.

If your intentions to sell photos, then look no further than photium.com. They have ready made templates to start a selling site.

Looks good. An easy way out, but expensive. £7 a month for the basic package, £13 for the intermediate. Thats way too much.

Includes hosting and your domain name. Very simple to operate and very helpful people.

Just while this is still being looked at, was wondering if people had any idea about the selling of prints online. If i made my website and had images for sale, do you think people would buy them?

    Probably not.

Unless your posting events to a target audience sales through websites are minimal as far as I know. That applies even to some of the "names" out there.

It is a good way to get your name out there and may have a good indirect impact though.
