Was passing Carton House GC today and took this of what I thought was Shell Cottage but is actually turns out is The Boathouse which is on the grounds of the golf course.

Anyway, what do you think? C&C appreciated.

Wow Ballyman that is a great shot. I love the stillness of the water. You really did well;)

Lovely peaceful image, I like the muted tones and the way the reflections have a nice shimmery quality, rather than being mirror sharp.

    Nice work.

I'm not sure if this photo is appropriate for requesting C&C.
A&L might fit better - accolades and laudits.
I absolutely love it, very calming, well done.

    Very nice.
Did you play golf today at Carton ?
I'd love to take my camera to some of the golf courses in Ireland, some great scenery to be had ! mmmmmm.....could I sneak it in my bag and every so often say to my playing partners, ' ''hang on a minute there lads I just want to take another picture', now where did I put the tripod !'
I'd say I'd be kicked off the course in double-quick time !

Thanks for the comments. Wasn't expecting these kind!!

The sky has a purple tinge that I can't seem to get rid of completely without distorting the colour of the rest of the image. I used a 3 stop ND and a 2 Stop ND Grad together for this. Seemingly if you double or treble up Cokin filters you get this strong purple tinge. The original was much worse and this was the best I could get it.

I went back again this morning when the place was covered in frost for another go at it. Which is better?

I think I prefer this one as it makes the other one look a little dark although the sunlight this morning gave the place a more autumn than freezing cold winter feeling.

that is superb. Very xmassy looking. One thing I'd do its to crop out some water in the foreground. I think there is slightly too much there

The original one had less water than this one. The reason there is more water this time is because I wanted to keep the full reflection of the tree. Would it be better without the full reflection?

yeah, not sure after I looked at it again...it looks at first glance to have too much foreground, but then you chop off the tree reflection. I think whatever you do with it, you have a cracker of an image.

    Where is this place?

It's beautiful as it is, if anything I would like to have seen it with the shore line exactly in the middle to give 50% reflection.

Well done its a fine shot.

    Where is this place?

It's in Carton House golf course on the Leixlip/Maynooth road. It's very close, actually next door, to Intel if you are familiar with them

Absolutely brilliant. Well done. I would leave the full reflection of the tree IN, rather than cropping. I think i would agree about the 50/50 reflection.

OMG! Thats absolutely brilliant. I thought the first one was fantastic but this is just something else. I'm so jealous, I'd love to get a shot like that!

    I bet it was freezing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,147 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

I think both are very nice but the 2nd stands out because of its color. Maybe you should VISIT it at different stages in the Year & then do a 4 picture poster/panoramic type thingy.

    What a photo.

If I had my way that would be the scene for an alternate happy ending to a remake of Dr. Zhivago, this time he and Lara meet up after the revolution and live happily ever after, minks and rugrats, and Tonya get's sorted out too of course, bless.

    Well done, most inspiring.

That is because the Sky is a long long way away ..... ;)

Both really nice images. Personally I would keep the full reflection of the tree.
