Channel 100 for me on NTL digital in Dublin. Cheesey adverts for Chorus NTL services mostly and adverts for childrens channels.

There is however, one item that may be of interest to viewers - apparently UPC branded viewing cards will be making their way to some viewers shortly. I didn't catch all of the item and, from the boxes demonstrated, seem to be going to NTL viewers who still have NTL-branded boxes (two Pace models were demonstrated).

I just caught the end of that too. I've been watching Info TV for 15 minutes to try to catch the full thing.

Just saw the bit about the card upgrade

They say to do it at night as it may take up to 6 hours for the new card to update.

They also say that a lot of channels will be missing, till the upgrade is complete.

You then need to ring a freephone number with your account info at hand to tell them that the up-date has worked.

Did a reboot - Channel 999 on small pace box in Dublin, no channel 100

How did they manage that - some boxes 100 others 999 ??

I was going to ask this in the Nagra thread but since its been locked I'll post it here. I already have a UPC branded card, will it need to be replaced too or is it only the older NTL ones?

Going on the info in the podcast linked in the other thread, I get the impression all cards are to be replaced.

This card swap will be a nightmare! 6 hours without TV then you've to ring their customer care line post swap. How many extra staff are they going to employee to support this?!

I also noted the card they give you will have the same first 10 digits as your existing. This will lead to confusion in houses with multiple boxes, I can see many homes mixing up the cards.

The best option would be to do the card swap just before you go to bed, then ring UPC in the morning. I doubt in the current circumstances they will employ any extra staff.

The ad on Info TV concentrated on those with NTL equipment. There was no mention of Chorus or UPC-branded customers yet, however UPC customers will already have UPC-branded cards (albeit in most instances with the old uppercase UPC logo).

... which is exactly what they are saying on the ad on channel 100/999, and will probably say in the accompanying letter too, not that will stop anyone from totally ignoring those instructions and then ringing up angrily asking where all their channels are though.

One thing of note too, on the ad they're only showing the non-DVR boxes .. does that mean the DVR already has the necessary card, or was that just an oversight on their part, I wonder?

I got a UPC-branded card with my DVR, but it has the old logo as per what icdg said

And here's the video. :) Though am I the only one who thinks a three minute video telling people how to change a card is a bit funny?

It is why they have the license from the BCI. :(

Is it just me or does it seem stupid that UPC are asking you to call 1908 to confirm that your digital is still working when it can take them up to an hour to answer the phone. Couldn't we just email them? or Text them with the details? I hope the have a number option to confirm rather then talking to a CSR.

I am noticing that the adds are all for the children's channels doesn't this go against the BCI's advertising codes?

For you and I, maybe, but there are a lot of people out there who really, genuinely don't have a clue. Never underestimate the ability of people to screw up even the most trivial of tasks.
