    Hi

dunno if this is the right forum to ask - if not, please feel free to move.

I got a job offered in Belfast. The salary is £12800 pa. Is that ok to live (and not only survive!) or ist it as rediculous (IMHO) as the €20k offers for Dublin?

    THX

    What is the job?
Belfast and Northern Ireland is the lowest paid area of the UK. You would come out with around £900 per month after tax.

I don't know how much rent is in Belfast but you'd probably end up sharing a house/flat or else you'd not have much money left over..

It is a *lot* cheaper to live in the UK but I think you'd want to be on at least £18k to live comfortably. However it depends on what the job is!

Rents in Belfast are a fraction of Dublin
You'll easily get a room in a houseshare for £200 per month and that's a good room, not a box room

    13k is very low
Is it a graduate job. 18K is low too but that's one of the higher paying jobs. Salaries in Belfast can be low but most things are cheaper

I'd be looking for 16k minimum if you want any sort of decent life outside work

It's just a callcentre job... Nothing special

So I better stay here in my own (rented) apartment... :)
I've lived the last 3 years on my own and there is no way of me going back to share a house! ;)

Callcentre job - is it in The GEM? If so, STAY AWAY. Bunch of cowboys who pay well under the going rate. I worked for them about six years ago and quit after about 6 months the management was so bad. A lot of the staff back then were Mums who did a few hours in the evening, bearable for them but not if you are a full timer.

Having worked in belfast and my bro is currently up there doing something similar i would say that you can get by on that sort of money, granted you wont be living like rockafella but you will have enough to eat and have a few pints.

You can get some really cheap little restatraunts in belfast near queens etc and there are always a few beer promos happenning somewhere.

Not great money but it is do-able if you are single and dont have a heavy gambling problem. Good luck.

    lolz at the Gem 'recommendations'.

£13k is lower end of the scale for admin/call centre in Belfast but perfectly acceptable. Try a few agencies maybe? There's tonnes of call centre stuff about at the mo.
