    Hi

A question for all you Brooks saddles aficiondados - the ranks of which appear to be growing amongs boardies - I'm drawing my xmas present list for santa with a view to asking for a brooks B17. I see CRC are now stocking a version with aged brown tan leather and laces? What's the deal with the laces. CRC doesn't explain why. Its a tenner extra over the standard B17. Any thoughts?

I think the idea is that you can "tighten" up the leather if it starts to sag, although there is also a nut at the front for this. Many advise never to go near it and I have not needed to myself. The lacing also allows you to adjust the width of the saddle to an extent. The B17 is an ideal saddle for shorter distances or commuting I reckon (anything up to 50-100km.)

Have never had one with laces so can't speak to whether they are worth it or not.

Ive often looked at those laces and wondered why? They look to me like they could cause some serious chaffing.
