Frequent tonsillitis/inflammation damages the voice?

At least 4-5 times a year I get inflamed tonsils and the odd time, proper tonsillitis.

I was just wondering, does this have a cumulative effect on your voice over time? For example, if you were a professional singer, would your doctor recommend a tonsillectomy sooner than he/she would if you did not use your voice professionally?

I don't know if it would damage your voice over a long period but last year though, I was doing singing in college and got pretty bad tonsilitis 3 times in about 2 and a half months. The doctor said that if I got it again that we should look into getting them removed as it was making me pretty sick.

Don't know if that's any help at all but ya never know... :)
