I have been training the last couple of years in BJJ. I am a high blue belt soon to go for purple. Moved back to Mayo, looking to take up it here. Anyone interested? Any existing club that wants to train it?

You'd probably have to drop down to Galway.. Haven't heard of anyone in Mayo.

Is blue-going-on-purple belt high enough to start instructing? If so you could start a beginners class.

I sure hope so, if not then the majority of MMA clubs around Ireland don't have a fully qualified BJJ coach!

Yes indeedy though in fairness I think he was talking about setting up a group. OP talk to John Kavanagh about setting up a training group, his details are at www.sbgireland.com . It's how a lot of the BJJ clubs in Ireland started out. The Whesht needs more BJJ!

Was hoping some already set up club in Mayo would want to bring it in. I would teach it for free it if i had to. So any club out there interested let me know. I have coached BJJ before.

Don't know what clubs are out there, John Brawn is all I know of off the top of my head, you could give him a shout. Are you far from Galway? You could always swing down to us to keep your skill level from decaying

It might be worth giving Martin O'Malley a shout. PM me if you want his number. Him and a group of like minded individuals regularily get together in Mayo for session. At their last session there was Krav Maga, Shotokan, Korean Sword, Grappling, San Shou, a John Brawn demo, plus if I am not mistaken some BJJ. The person doing the BJJ may not havebeen from Mayo but Martin would definitely know as he has his finger on the pulse in Mayo.

Keep us posted on what you find. A BJJ training group in Mayo would be great for us in Galway.

I spoke to one of the instructors last night that attended that course. The BJJ person has re-located back to Dublin. They only spent a short time in Mayo. I was told that there are 2 jiu jitsu clubs in the Westport area. However they are not BJJ.
