Overnight in Stansted

Get into Stansted at 11pm on a Friday night and have a flight on Saturday morning at 0630.

    What should we do?

I'm thinking we could get Standsted Exprsss @ 12 into London .. we'll be there by 1, quick taxi to Leister Sq. Then leave there about half 3, 4am train back to the airport and onto the flight. Reckon it's worth it for a few pints?

Alternatively a bottle of whiskey, some iPods and a deck of cards and sit in Departures ..

Any other suggestions besides a hotel?

Fabric is alright, theres also the x club and the egg club, all clubs will be open all night and the only problem is getting back in time for flight :D

From my reading of the website there's a train at 2359 and 0030 from the airport to London and the first train back to the airport is 0410.

Just the 2 of us and we'll want to relax more than go clubbing really. Don't wanna overdo things either given we've a 2.5 hour flight in the morning too.

I guess with all the suggestions being around places in London the general consensus is that we should get the train in then rather then sit around the airport?

Had a smiliar stopover before. Cheap whiskey and cigars in the duty-free of the outgoing airport are your only man

I like you style :D, REF Bottle of whiskey ;).

    There are a few 24 bars and a lot more 24 restaurants/diners.

To be honest I would go with the bottle of JD, not nearly enough time to relax in town with the time scale availible.

Well.. we can start relaxing on the flight over with a couple of minitures, then open the bottle of JD* as we get on the train, having a quick break in the taxi from Liverpool St to Leister Sq, few pints to wash down the JD and then some more JD as soon as we remember again it's far superior to that Carling pish. Then we'll have a quick drink and head back to the waiting taxi before being whisked away to the train etc etc.

We shall then repeat the same thing 8 hrs later on the train from the airport in Sweden into Stockholm city centre for 90 mins.

I'll wake up on Wednesday morning and go to work with not a ****ing clue what happened the whole weekend.

    Sound like a plan anyone?

    * I reserve the right to substitute this for other Whiskeys of equal or greater strength / taste. No Vodka will be used during the making of this trip.

Sounds like a foolproof plan :p

Don't go to Amsterdam. Once is enough. Go to Munich if you haven't been. Munich you'll return to. :)

As for Venice .. as my mate would say .. you're ****ing barred for ****e talk like that!

Never been to Munich and could so nearly have went if it wasn't for the following:o .

Was travelling around mainland Europe a couple of years ago and was in Berlin when Octoberfest was on. Found a lovely bar in East Berlin and with too much smoking/drinking/telling tall tales of days of ould, never got around to heading south.

Have to put it on my to do list.

PS The Venice thing was a bit "are you trying to tell me something mate?"

Venice is very romantic, so maybe he is

I've been thinking about this and to be honest, if the bar at the airport is open 24 hours then I'd probably stay there. You are looking at £26 each for the train, £10 for the taxi, entrance into a club and London prices for drinks.

Did the overnight thing in Stanstead this summer. Not a great night. Security closes at abouot 10.30 and re-opens at 3am. There's a restaurent open 24 hours before security though (and a boots too) and they sell beer (the boots doesn’t ;) ) Once security opens you can head into the bar in departures. Most shops open up fairly early too.

    Has anyone done this recently?

My sister is coming to visit me and then on to Italy but the flights is verry early and the last train gets in about midnight. Shes just 18. Would she be ok for a few hours? Shes has no problem at all doing it but im just worried because she is travelling alone.

I presume that there is still a restaranut open in the area before you go through and there are security guards?
