    Hi all,

What's the difference between Type II & III CF Cards?

I just bought a new camera (first DSLR) and duly went and bought a SanDisk Extreme III 2.0GB Card - it doesn't work! It fits the slot ok but is not being recognised by the camera.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Try going into the Menu on the camera and formatting the card.
SanDisk Extreme III is not a type III card, thats just sandisks own nomenclature. That card should work in every new DSLR (That uses Compact Flash)

    it doesn't work!

    Try to format it
every camera I know has a combination of buttons to format the card without having to deal with all the menues
    see if that helps
does the card work in a card reader or another camera?

Canon 450D doesn't take CF cards, so not every new dSLR! Nor do some Nikons.

Might help if you posted up what Camera it is

The camera is an Olympus E410 and it takes both a CF card and xD Card. If I remove the xD card and just insert the CF card the menu is telling me the card is full. If I try to format it I get a "CF Card Error" message.

Then you need to try the card in another camera or a card reader to establish whether the fault is with the card or the camera

:mad:Looks like the camera is faulty!

Tried the CF card in my card reader and am able to copy pics to it and read it. Looks like its back to the shop - however I'm a bit reluctant to give it back to them as there are rumors about their future!

Is there an Olympus centre in Ireland and would they sort it out under warranty?

What about Sandisk Extreme IV. Which CF card type is that?

Got my hands on a Lexar 512mb CF card and it works fine in the camera! Seems the camera is ok but the card is faulty when in the camera???

    Anyone come across this before?
