    Hi folks,

So like a lot of you guys and girls I braved the extreme cold on Sunday morning to take a few shots and would love some C&C if you don't mind. Especially on things like Composition, exposure, focus and PP.
    Thanks a million.

    Gorgeous photos :)

#1 Gorgeous positioning. I would have brought out a slightly heavier saturation on it. Particularly in the blues and oranges. Maybe deepen the greens for the cliff on the left. It looks a bit blown out.

#2 Good composition and capture. Would definitely clone out the telephone wires though.

    #3 My favourite. Gorgeous colours.

Have to say number 1 looks a bit off to me, cant put my finger on it though, maybe post processing?

But my god number 2, excellent shot, really love the sepia toning.

As for cloning out the telephone wires? I say leave them in, looks great as it is! Well done!

#1 is lovely shot, at first I thought it was great but then start to get a little put off by the huge amount of foreground. Maybe a bit of a crop?

#2 is interesting but just not for me. Then again.. maybe.. I'm unsure, ha!

#3 Cracking shot, I love the choice in small f and the colours. Very well taken!

I wish I had gotten out with my camera at the weekend, it was amazing out. Instead I spent most my time under the water in Wicklow kayaking :D.

I think number 1 is missing something. It seems a little bit flat and a little soft. Maybe a contrast boost might liven it up? I'd also crop out the flag? in the foreground as it just looks like a piece of rubbish and draws the eye too much towards it.

I'd get rid of the wires in two if it were mine. It doesn't really do anything for me to be honest though. Not sure why.

I love the third one. The colours are exelent and the DOF works very well. A lot of people don't like framed photos but I think it suits this perectly.

Last one is a nice shot. The watchtower is something different to what you normally see. Must get out some frosty morning as I have a few places in mind to target.

Thanks all, I really appreciate your time and the comments. It seems almost everyone is in agreement that the first one just isn't right. I agree, and have tried various diffenert types of PP and just can't come up with anything I'm happy with. I've posted the origonal shot on Pix.ie here: ( http://pix.ie/lifebythedrop/764987/size/800 ) if anyone fancies playing around with it please feel free, would love to see what you come up with.

As for #2, I think I'll leave the phone lines in, although I haven't even seen how it looks without them yet so over the next couple of days I'll go at it in photoshop and see how it turns out. I love the way people see things differently, some say take them out, some say leave them in. I guess thats what makes us all individuals!

I read the thread on here and watched the promo video on "Topaz Adjust" and downloaded it.
I used topaz on the first one of these pics to see if I could improve on what I could manage with Photoshop. Here's the result. C&C much appreciated. Thanks.

No offence to the photo but it looks horrible - photowise. If you were going for a really art-type shot maybe but imo it's like a hdr done to death.

IMHO the picture 1st is still not quite right. There is nothing to lead you on into the picture, the eye is immediately drawn to the seaweed and the next step as such, the boat, is too far away to lead (me anyway) further in. Picking up the seaweed, putting it nearer the water draws the eye into the picture then to the boat. Alternately move your shooting position to the left and use the water to lead the viewer into the picture, and get lower.

Below I've cropped out part of the cliff on left, cropped amount of sand (and with it seaweed) and tried to position the pic so the viewers eye is lead into the photo with the water on RHS to ship / horizon and cliff (either side). I deliberately left the cliff in both sides to balance and to frame the pic. Processing it I'd say the biggest problem is the ship is too low in the water and is more distracting due to that fact.

I think the watchtower looks great and would leave as is.

    Woodstown perfect.

BTW while I am full of opinion, you have put your pics up for C&C something I've yet to do!!

KJT I appreciate your honesty and your dead right, it doesn't look much like a photo anymore. Like Linda said It looks more like a painting now. Although I do like the foreground but the cliff on the left turned out awful. I think I might have overdone it with the Noise suppressor tool.

Emul, Thank you for your detailed C&C, I'll get out there over the next week or two and shoot it from a different angle as you suggested.

    Mick.

I also really love the third one. Like the others the first one is missing something but don't know enough about photography to know what it is! I also really like the sepia tone on number 2.
