I'm off to Oslo in Norway for a conference in February, and I was thinking of staying for a few extra days snowboarding.

Has anyone been, and can you recommend the best place to go from Oslo? What are prices, etc, and can you hire board/boots etc as I wont bring anything with me.

    Thanks,
    G23

You might want to look at going to Trysil then. Its about 2 hours from Oslo. Never been but heards its a pretty good place.

Oh yeah Lillehammer aswell, where the 94 Olympics were on.

You can hire everything you need at ski resports, not too sure about ski clothes though, but everything else, yes. In general Norway is a very expensive place to take a holiday, cost of drink and food in pubs and restaurants is much higher than Ireland. Expect to pay more for pretty much everything.

Went to Norway last year for a short 3 day ski trip. stayed in the town of Lillehammer and went to Hafjell ski centre. Have to say I was pretty impressed with it. Lillehammer is about a 1.5 hour train journey from oslo. Aprés ski wasnt anything amazing but the lifts were good and slopes were nice.

Liked it so much that I'm going back next week for 7 days. Renting out a cabin right at the base of the slope.

Eating out is expensive alright but probably not far off what you would pay here, expect to pay 50 quid for 2 meals in a restaurant, not including drinks. Drinking out is where things start to get pretty expensive, with it being up to €8 for a 600ml beer!

Having said that, I have found everything else in Norway to be cheap enough, the return train journey is only 50 quid, 7 day lift pass only 100 quid, 7 day ski rental about 100 quid too, and the cabin which i booked through hafjell.no/en/ was only 650 for the week, and it can sleep 6. So while not dirt cheap all round, it evens out reasonably well. Cant wait to get goin anyway!
