It sounds better than last year but you are very conscious that they are just reading off a sheet...the bit I am listening to anyways...seems very very very structured and the presenter isn't relaxed...

I think that's probably the best way to go for the first week or two though. Being pre-prepared helps settle the nerves a bit, and saves you having to think on the spot as much. Obviously as the weeks go on and presenters get more comfortable, they'll seem a lot more relaxed. So what you'll be hearing from now until Christmas is completely understandable.

They've made a good start and it's clear that a lot of effort has gone into it this year. It'll be interesting to see how it develops over the next few months, hopefully they can maintain a good level of enthusiasm and interest.

Anyone know what kind of music license they're operating on? Someone was saying yesterday that they heard the license only covers a few of the major record labels, meaning there'll be none of the indie rock that we college folk so adore.

Speak for yourself, I love me some major label music.

I've been enjoying it, quite a good selection of music.

Aye, but it's nice to hear new stuff and get introduced to bands we wouldn't have otherwise heard of.

Was listening to it the other day, w/ Diarmad and whoever the hell else it was (Shauna? Soz, forget.) Pretty good as radio personalities go, but really, if you're going to be doing a show concerning celebrities and popular culture you should probably know a bit off the top of your head. I'm a big nerdy indie head myself, frankly, and I still knew more about most the celebs they were dishing age-old goss on. (It's cool though, if you want me to advise on the show, I'd be more than happy to ;D)

Few other presenters were kind of wooden, but the music was good. And I've only heard the news on it once, but srsly, either she has to get better or she has to go. (Not that I'm sure who she was.)

The news and sports team won't be fully up and running until next week. The guys and girls doing the bulletins this week are just standing-in in the meantime.

In case you're wondering what type of show will be on when, it generally works out that the chat based shows (sports, current affairs, celeb gossip etc) takes place in the afternoon, and the more music based programmes in the evening.

That makes a lot of sense and in which case, she did a smashing job. I know from experience that it takes a while to get used to news reading, getting the tempo and that right; gods knows I fail monumentally at it (talk way too quickly). I'll definitely be tuning in again though, I like the balance you've achieved so far.

Oh the music they've been playing is fine, I don't mean to say they're playing anything bad (except that one time I turned it on and heard "Galway Girl"... *shudder*). I just think it would be nice too if they had the option of doing some sort of alternative or indie show to play new music and I'm wondering if the license they're operating on restricts them at all in that way.

Given that its only a week into it, I think they've done a very good job. Music selection, given that they're using 98fm's playlists, is the same you'd expect from, well, 98fm :D or any commercial radio station. Any problems I have with it are more a reflection on myself being out of touch with pop culture than the music selection being inappropriate.

Only minor issues with what I've heard so far; Why is there an english dude doing the plugs between songs when ye have an entire society of budding broadcasters? On the whole though it exceeded my expectations of what standard it would be at.

    We can only hope.
