    Okay,

So simple question here (I hope!) for anyone who has been to Edinburgh.

If I book a train that is due to arrive in Waverley from Inverness at 11.20. Then get the airlink to the airport. What are the chances of me being in the airport by 12.30? (flight a little after 14.00) (including average waiting times for buses etc)

This would be on a Saturday, pretty sure there isn't any rugby on (20th Dec?).

Are the trains (generally) on time around Edinburgh?

Appreciate any help, haven't booked anything yet. Just want to be sure. Would hate to miss my flight home for Christmas!!

you shouldn't have much trouble making a 2.00pm flight if your train arrives at 11.20am, getting to the airport at 12.30pm may be a different matter though. the edinburgh airlink bus takes about 30 minutes from the station to the airport

btw when i took the train from edinburgh to inverness we arrived about 15 minutes early in inverness, of course that was in september and weather in december may play a factor

so in essence. All things going normally I should be fine.

Just in case, how long would a taxi take from the train station?

    thanks a million

its about 8 miles to the airport so maybe 15 mins in a taxi

Best thing to do is get off at Haymarket instead and get the bus from there. They are still doing road works from Haymarket towards Prince's street and depending on the time of the day it can be quite busy.

cool. Looking at the map, this amounts to the same thing. right? you just arent doubling back on yourself as much.

If so, thats great, anything that will save time!

    Thanks!!!

Yeah saves you doubling back on yourself and most of the road works take place after Haymarket heading back towards Waverly. Just means you should avoid any potential traffic problems by getting off at Haymarket.
