I'm after moving into a new gaf and there's no power shower! I've only got this stupid water heater. I've no idea what's going on with it either. Do I leave the hot/cold valves open the whole time? How long should I leave it on for, what's with the shower having no pressure one minute and another it's working fine. I'm hoping stuff isn't dodgy and I'm just clueless here. There's a third valve that barely turns. Decoration?

Whats so complicated about pressing a switch and pressing it again in 20 minutes?

is there a timer, if there isnt then your screwed. youll have to turn on the immersion 1/2 hour before you want a shower and turn it off again when your finished. Its a stupid system

    Burn the house down.

I suppose that would keep me warm for a while...

Wow... had no power shower in my house until about 4 or 5 years ago, granted it's bloody handy, but never thought anyone in my generation would have a problem with figuring out an immersion.

Is it a boiler or a heater diff been the boiler has loads of pipes coming and going from it and is usually in an airing cuboard whereas a heater is a small thing usually in the corner of the bathroom about the size of a small portable TV or under the kitchen sink?

Try asking in the DIY forum.

It's a boiler and the heater is in the cupboard along with it. It's just something new and it jars me a little. It looks like there's a timer but I'm not sure what's going on there.

They almost purely run immersion systems stateside, but it works on a thermostat not a timer (very inefficient if you ask me) But my first apartment in carlow ran on a timed one too.

Just set it to run for an hour each morning sometime before your first shower and it ought to be enough to last the day in most cases, enough for one or two short showers and some sink water. Hot tap for hot water and (surprise) cold tap for cold. WOW! Mix to preference.

It is a little sad that youre so stumped by an immersion systm tbh. But then again I was terrified to take my first electric shower, so we're square.

Whatever you do don't leave the immersion on constantly it will cost you a fortune. It racks up units of electricity. It should be enough to turn it onto bath for half an hour. That should be enough for a shower for 1 person.

That's the kind of thing I was looking to hear. Don't want to wait until the bill comes in the door to find things like that out, thanks Jess.

You're welcome. I found out the hard way. A friend of mine had told me to leave it on constantly so I did, hence huge electricity bill, hence lesson learned and I got some better advice :D

You would do well to invest in a timer for it.

Wake up late for work and the water will be hot anyway.

You also won't forget to turn it off.

That's how the shower works in my place. It's hardly a big deal. Flicking a switch twenty mins before you wana have a shower is easy! :)

If you're a doctor you can afford to leave the immersion on all the time!
